⌛️ 13. Final Project Idea ⏳
As previously mentioned in my last couple of blog posts, Rebecca and I agreed that our movie opener would consist of a student being burnt out with their busy schedule and showcasing the chaos (having her at work, including fast-pacing music that builds up, jump cuts of her at work and school doing rigorous acts until she can't take it anymore).
Here are all the ideas that we've planned out so far (as you can see from the photo below):
- Opening shot: Alarm goes off while there’s still a black screen showing the production title/title of the “movie”. girl wakes up in bed, looks at clock, realizes she’s late, “you’re kidding me”
- She frantically jumps out of bed, quick fast-paced cuts of her getting ready
- Throughout the shots, it displays the credits such as “editor”, “director”, etc (duh)
- J-cut at the beginning, with her sighing or going “damn” while she’s turning off the alarm clock
- As she leaves the room, either pan to the alarm clock with the title blinking alongside the sound
- Bedroom appears clean, white, minimalist, her desk is a mess and clothes on the floor, but overall very minimalistic
- Still need to decide whether we’ll be the actors or maybe someone else
- We’ll use our phones or maybe Ms. Perez will lend one of her fancy cameras for us to use
- Have her trip over a shoe (maybe haver her throw a shoe or show an annoyed face)
- Maybe include a shot of her spitting out her toothpaste
- Transition of her opening a medicine cabinet, closing the cabinet, and opening the closet to grab clothes or grabbing her clothes from the floor
- As she’s getting ready, have the alarm clock be the motif (in a red digital alarm clock font)
- Possibly at the end of the trailer, while the character “crashes” from her exhausting life, the alarm clock goes off again?
- Include somewhere in the film a list of all the items and missing assignments she has to catch up on to represent how her life in going downhill
- Maybe towards the end, have a scene of her sitting in her car with several colorful lights moving, but they continue to blur out and turn red? Probably not possible but it might be a good idea to incorporate

I'm pretty excited to show our creativity and present the reality of a student that has a busy life and is driven to the point where they basically drive themself insane. I feel as though many parents and adults downplay how much stress a teenager might experience, especially when it comes to school, and act as if a teenager's life is the easiest thing in the world. While most teenagers don't have to worry about paying their own bills or groceries or savings, I'm pretty sure all of us stress over school and feeling so mentally exhausted that it just feels like we should give up. Another thing I'm quite excited about is being able to better understand how to improve our editing skills and how we can capture emotions and experiences accurately without it seeming super 'janky' or low quality (as I mentioned in the previous blog post, it's something that I'm very picky about).

On the other hand, I'm slightly worried about our expectations not matching up to the final result of our film opening. It's fairly common to have high aspirations for something - whether it be a school project or maybe even an idea for a business - and not have it be as great as you imagined it would be. For the most part, I like to be realistic and not get my hopes up too much, and dreaming big just seems difficult, especially for two amateur film students who barely have any experience in creating film openings. But for this project, I'm going to try my best to be as optimistic as possible and plan everything carefully alongside Rebecca to ensure that we get as close to our ideal goal as possible!
