⚝ 19. Some Inspiration for Our Film Opening! ⚝

So now that I've been taking this Media Studies class, I've definitely been observing more movies in depth and observing the way they use camera angles, lighting, costumes, mise en scene, diegetic sounds, and several other components to portray everything on the screen for the audience. I literally can't watch movies in the same way anymore... it's kind of a good thing and a bad thing because I spend the majority of the time observing the little details, but I end up not focusing on the dialogue itself.

Recently I've watched some series and shows such as Prey (prequel of Predator), The Last of Us, Breaking Bad, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and You People - my favorite watch out of these 5 would either be Prey or Breaking Bad. But like OH MY GOD. I was obsessed with every concerning the technical aspects of the movie rather than the plot (but the plot was great either way). This movie had me on my toes constantly and the pacing and settings were perfect.

Review: 'Prey' Gives 'Predator' Series Its Long-Awaited Masterpiece – Rolling Stone
Literally what a freaking masterpiece. Her messy yet beautiful hair, her contemplative expression, the blood splatter on her face, the dirt covering her arms, her clothing, the intimidating Alien lurking in the background, the spooky setting of the forest.

Prey' receives rave first reactions: "Best Predator film since the original"

As I've mentioned a million times, I'm very picky about lighting - in fact, when Rebecca and I were filming our movie opener for the first times, I constantly had to tell the director (Rebecca) that we needed better lighting. I'm such a stickler for it, but I feel like it's a really big component that sets one film apart from another. However, after watching these movies, it kind of made me realize that maybe I don't need lighting in every single shot (well maybe just in most of them). So maybe the next time that Rebecca and I film, I'll try not to be too much of a snob with lighting.

Another thing I want to include in our film that I was inspired by the other films and shows is the art behind symbols and hidden meanings. I feel like it really engages the audience and lets them interpret exactly what the director wants them to know or what they're attempting to allude to. In our film opener, we've included these sort of elements through the use of white bedsheets and the mood lighting.

The white bedsheet kind of represent how Cathy is attempting to keep her life together and how she want's the world to see her in the future, but once the camera pans over to the bedroom and messy atmosphere, it's evident that she's just aspiring to be neat and pure. As for the mood lighting, we incorporated a lot of light purple, dark purple, blue, and pink throughout the bedroom scenes. The shades of purple are meant to represent the heavier, moodier, instability, and unease that Cathy experiences. The red light cast upon the alarm clock wasn't necessarily intentional and mostly based on interesting lighting that we wanted to cast, but if you wanted to interpret it, then I guess it would symbolize the annoyance of waking up in the morning and dreading another day in a disorganized life.

Also I'm sorry for the font change I literally don't know how to revert it back from a photo caption but who knows hopefully I'll come back and edit this a little bit.
